Busan Autumn Foliage 2026: Timing, Transit & Gyeongju

Plan for late October to mid-November for Busan foliage in 2026; this is an estimate based on southern Korea, not an observation of current local color. Visit city parks and Beomeosa by public transit, or compare independent travel with a Gyeongju day tour.

⚡ Quick answer (updated October 9): the official 2026 forecast puts Korea’s national peak around October 31, later in the south, so Busan’s season runs late October to mid-November, at its best in early to mid-November, with the mountains (Beomeosa on Geumjeongsan) coloring about a week before city parks. The easiest city spots are Oncheoncheon and Yongdusan Park; the classic mountain foliage is at Beomeosa Temple; the top day trip is Gyeongju, ~30 min by KTX. For fewer crowds, target a weekday in late Oct to early Nov.

Busan foliage forecast: when to go

Korea’s fall color moves north to south and high to low. Busan sits at the peninsula’s southern tip, so it colors later than most of the country.

Official 2026 forecast (Korea Forest Service and Korea National Arboretum, September): national maple and oak peak around October 31, ginkgo around October 30, about 0.8 days later than the 5-year average; in the south, Naejangsan around November 4 and Hallasan on Jeju around November 6. The first color was recorded on Jeombongsan on September 14. Busan gets no separate date, so going by the southern timing, the season looks like this:

Oncheoncheon Citizens Park — the easiest riverside walk

Zelkova and maple line both banks of the Oncheoncheon stream, turning gold and red in autumn — great for a stroll or a bike ride. Get off at Oncheonjang or Myeongnyun Station on Subway Line 1. The top pick if you want foliage without climbing a mountain.

Mountain foliage: Beomeosa & Geumgang Park

Beomeosa Temple on Geumjeongsan is Busan’s signature thousand-year temple, wrapped in layered red and gold along the trails each fall — locals’ number-one foliage spot. Take Subway Line 1 to Beomeosa Station, walk about 5 minutes from Exit 5 to the Samsin bus stop, then bus 90 to the temple ticket office. At the foot, Geumgang Park has a cable car, a stream, and maples for an easier visit.

Where to stay for foliage

Most foliage spots sit along Subway Line 1 (both Oncheoncheon and Beomeosa are on Line 1), so basing yourself at a transfer hub like Seomyeon minimizes travel time — Line 1 runs straight to Oncheoncheon and Beomeosa, and Line 2 gets you to Haeundae and Centum City fast. Day trip: Gyeongju foliage

For temples, tombs, and color in one hit, Gyeongju is the day trip worth taking from Busan. Bulguksa Temple and Donggung Palace & Wolji Pond are classic Korean autumn scenes.
