Yeongdo Food Walk: The Other Side of Coffee Island — 55-Year Pork Soup and Market Institutions

Beyond Huinnyeoul Cafe Street, Yeongdo's Namhang Market hides a pork soup shop that's been serving for over half a century. Here's a city-certified lineup of Yeongdo eats, perfect to pair with a Taejongdae day trip.

Cross two bridges onto Yeongdo and you’ll find yourself in a different Busan altogether. Huinnyeoul Road, facing the sea, is lined with distinctive cafes, while the alleys near the dense shipyard district hide unexpected old shops — this contrast is exactly why Yeongdo has picked up the nickname “Coffee Island” in recent years. Beyond coffee and sea views, this list also covers a few Busan city-certified spots that locals genuinely eat at.

1. Jaegi Dwaeji Gukbap (재기돼지국밥)

A pork soup institution in Yeongdo’s Namhang Market running for over 55 years, keeping the traditional toreom (hot-water reheating) method to serve the soup piping hot, with cuts of meat customizable to taste — a daily comfort flavor for Yeongdo locals.

  • Signature: Pork soup ₩10,000 / Assorted boiled meat ₩25,000-35,000
  • Address: 25 Jeolyeong-ro 49beon-gil, Yeongdo-gu
  • Phone: 051-418-0526
  • Hours: 08:00-21:00, closed Mondays

2. Jeju Bokguk (제주복국)

Unlike most pufferfish soup shops that serve in clay pots, this one cooks fresh per party and portions it out on the spot — it’s a shop that almost never gets left off any “best pufferfish soup in Busan” discussion. Spacious, with a calm, classic atmosphere.

  • Signature: Scorpionfish pufferfish soup (clear/spicy) ₩20,000 / True pufferfish soup (clear/spicy) ₩22,000
  • Address: 481 Jeolyeong-ro, Yeongdo-gu
  • Phone: 051-405-5050
  • Hours: 10:00-15:00 / 17:00-20:30, closed public holidays

3. Gomin Kkeute Yeogi (고민끝에여기, “Ended Up Here After a Long Think”)

A Mexican restaurant making fresh corn tortillas daily — approachable even for first-time Mexican food eaters, with a focus on fresh, daily-prepared ingredients. A surprising international option along a Yeongdo cafe-street walk.

  • Signature: Shrimp burrito ₩11,000 / Mexican pork tacos ₩12,400
  • Address: 12 Jungni Buk-ro 29beon-gil, Yeongdo-gu
  • Phone: 0507-1314-1592
  • Hours: 11:30-18:30, closed Mondays and Tuesdays

4. Donald (도날드)

A tteokbokki (spicy rice cake) specialist running for 35 years, a nostalgic spot for Yeongdo locals. It builds a distinctive flavor using a seafood-based broth mixed with chili paste, and many come specifically for the dessert finisher — puffed-rice-cracker ice cream (ppeong-cream).

  • Signature: Tteokbokki for 2 ₩11,000 / for 3 ₩15,000
  • Address: 1F, 267 Mongsu-gil, Yeongdo-gu
  • Phone: 051-413-9990
  • Hours: 11:00-19:30, closed Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays

5. P. Ark Cafe & Bakery (피아크 카페 & 베이커리)

A large bakery cafe with harbor sea views. It gets packed on weekends, but the space is big enough that actual wait times run shorter than you’d expect. With around 80-plus kinds of bread, drinks, and ice cream to choose from, it’s a great midpoint stop on a cafe-street walk.

  • Signature: Blue tteukjjita latte ₩8,500
  • Address: 180 Haeyang-ro 195beon-gil, Yeongdo-gu
  • Phone: 051-404-9204
  • Hours: 10:00-23:00, open every day

Where to Stay Nearby

Yeongdo itself has limited lodging, so most travelers stay in Nampo-dong or near Busan Station and take a taxi or bus across the bridge — the ride isn’t long.
