Busan Winter: Snow & Things to Do
Does it snow in Busan in December, January or February? Compare climate normals and plan winter lights, coastal walks, hot baths and a nearby ski day.
Last updated: · Busan Bible Editorial Team (based in Busan)
Busan is an unreliable destination for snow, but a good winter choice for lights, hot baths and seaside walks. Snow does fall occasionally, yet usually does not settle. Treat it as a bonus rather than the reason for booking; if skiing is the priority, set aside a separate day outside the city.
Does it snow in December, January or February?
| Month | Mean temperature | Average high / low | Average days with snow |
|---|---|---|---|
| November | 11.9°C | 16.6 / 8.3°C | 0.1 |
| December | 5.8°C | 10.4 / 2.0°C | 0.9 |
| January | 3.6°C | 8.2 / -0.1°C | 1.4 |
| February | 5.4°C | 10.2 / 1.5°C | 1.2 |
These are Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) climate normals for 1991–2020. A snow day records falling snow, not snow cover on the ground. The figures are long-term averages, not a forecast. Even January averages only around one or two days with snow. See the monthly Busan weather guide for the wider seasonal picture.
What to do in Busan in winter
Haeundae Light Festival
The current festival runs November 28, 2026–January 10, 2027 around Haeundae Beach and Gunam-ro. Public viewing areas are free. Plan dinner followed by the lights, and check the official notice before departure for lighting times and arrangements. The Haeundae Light Festival guide covers the route.
Christmas and New Year
Use the Christmas lights guide and New Year countdown guide to shape an evening out. As of October 31, 2026, dates for the 2026–27 Gwangbok-ro winter tree festival have not been announced. Check official notices before departure; last season’s schedule is not this season’s schedule.
Hot baths and indoor breaks
Put an indoor break between outdoor activities. The hot springs and spa guide helps you choose a venue, while the jjimjilbang guide explains how to use one. For companions who would rather skip bathing, keep the indoor activities guide handy.
Winter beaches
Haeundae and Gwangalli are options for a winter sea walk. Wind can make it feel colder than the thermometer suggests. Pack a thick coat or down jacket, a scarf and warm layers, and leave space for an indoor rest. Check wind conditions as well as temperature before heading out.
Skiing outside the city
Eden Valley in Yangsan, Gyeongsangnam-do, is the nearest ski resort to Busan. Snow in the city is not a reliable guide to slope operation, and a winter date alone does not guarantee skiing. Read the Busan ski day-trip guide and check the season’s announcement before committing a day.
Is winter the right season for you?
For lights, bathing and a short coastal stroll after a meal, winter works well. A manageable plan is one main outdoor activity with an indoor alternative. If thick snow is the whole point of the trip, do not build your expectations around central Busan.
