Spring reaches Busan before Seoul. Cherry blossoms usually open in late March and peak in early April, and with the Jinhae Gunhangje festival an hour away, this corner of Korea has some of the country’s best blossom viewing. Here’s when to go, five spots in the city, how to get to Jinhae, and when to book.

⚡ The 30-second version: aim for late March to early April. In the city, start with Dalmaji-gil (Haeundae) and Oncheoncheon. For the most spectacular tunnels, go to Jinhae (about an hour away). The forecast comes out in February or March, and weekend rates in Haeundae and Seomyeon climb, so book a free-cancellation room once it does.

When to go in 2027

  • Usual timing: blossoms open in late March, full bloom comes about a week later, and the best of it lasts roughly a week.
  • Compared with Seoul: Busan is usually about a week earlier, so a south-to-north route lets you see both.
  • What shifts it: a warm March brings it forward; spring rain or strong wind knocks the petals down fast. The local forecast a week out is the most reliable guide.
  • Official forecast: Korean weather agencies publish bloom forecasts each February or March. We’ll update this section when they do.

  • For photos: before 8 am is quietest, and Dalmaji-gil at dusk gives you the sea and the sunset.
  • Where to stay: Haeundae is closest to Dalmaji-gil, Gwangalli to Namcheon-dong. See where to stay in Busan.

Jinhae Gunhangje: the big festival an hour away

Jinhae is Korea’s most famous cherry blossom town, and its Gunhangje (Military Port) Festival runs while the whole town is in bloom. The two classic spots:

  • Yeojwacheon Stream: a blossom tunnel over the water, home to the “Romance Bridge” seen in Korean dramas.
  • Gyeonghwa Station: blossoms lining a disused railway, the classic tracks-and-petals shot.

Getting there: about an hour from Busan by intercity bus or car, but traffic during the festival is heavy. Leave early, or join a day tour from Busan with transport included. Korean crowds peak at weekends, so a weekday is much calmer.
