Why add a Yeongdo half-day

Yeongdo is just one bridge away from Nampo-dong, but moves at a completely different pace — no crowds, just cliffside sea views and quiet alleys. It pairs well as a half-day add-on after a Nampo-dong itinerary, showing a side of Busan fewer visitors get to see. In recent years, the Huinnyeoul area has picked up the nickname “cafe island” as more independent cafes have opened, but wander a little further inland and you’ll find the old harbor and shipyard neighborhoods largely unchanged — a mix of tourist spots and working-class daily life.

Taejongdae: walk it or ride it

Taejongdae is a coastal park at Yeongdo’s southern tip, with a loop trail that takes about an hour on foot. If walking that far isn’t appealing, the park’s Danubi sightseeing train covers the same loop, stopping at several viewpoints — a good option for travelers who don’t want to walk long distances or families traveling with older relatives. On a clear day you can see all the way to Tsushima Island from the cliffs, and the combination of the lighthouse and dramatic rock formations is considered one of Busan’s finest coastal views.

Huinnyeoul Culture Village, alley by alley

Huinnyeoul Culture Village is a colorful, terraced fishing village built into the hillside, its narrow alleys opening onto sea views at every turn — it’s been a filming location for several Korean dramas. Because the whole village sits on a slope, expect a lot of stairs and hills, so wear comfortable shoes. Tucked between the alleys are cafes built into converted old buildings; grab a window seat for a rest with a full sea view.

Jeolyeong Coastal Walk and Namhang Market

The Jeolyeong Coastal Walk connects to Huinnyeoul Culture Village via a wooden boardwalk showcasing Yeongdo’s distinctive rocky shore, with photo spots scattered along the way. A little further inland is Namhang Market, home to old-school eateries that have operated in the same spot for over 50 years — a different face of Yeongdo from the cafe strip. From broth simmered the traditional way to pufferfish soup cooked fresh to order, these spots draw more locals than tourists.

Getting there

Take a bus from Nampo-dong across the Yeongdo Bridge to get here. Yeongdo’s sights are fairly spread out (Huinnyeoul Culture Village, Taejongdae, Namhang Market), so it’s best to set aside a full morning or afternoon. It’s about a 15-minute drive between Huinnyeoul Culture Village and Taejongdae — plan half a day, visiting the village first and catching the sunset at Taejongdae. Yeongdo itself doesn’t have many lodging options, so most travelers stay in Nampo-dong or near Busan Station and cross the bridge by taxi or bus — it’s not a long ride. Yeongdo’s bus routes are a bit unusual, so it’s worth checking ahead of time.
