    Tongyeong Cable Car

One of Korea's earliest tourist cable cars. Ride up to the Mireuksan observation deck for a 360-degree view of the island-studded Hallyeohaesang National Park — most spectacular on a clear day.

    Dongpirang Mural Village

  3. 3

Gangguan Harbor & Chungmu Gimbap Street

Long-running chungmu gimbap restaurants cluster around the harbor. Plain seaweed rice rolls served with spicy seasoned squid and radish kimchi make up Tongyeong's signature affordable dish — a relaxed meal with a harbor view to match.

    Hansando Island

Home to historical sites tied to Admiral Yi Sun-sin, reachable by boat. A good addition for travelers who want some history alongside the scenery.

Why do a Tongyeong day trip

Tongyeong is often called “the Naples of Korea” for the island-dotted views of Hallyeohaesang National Park, which the cable car takes in all at once. The hillside Dongpirang Mural Village is packed with colorful paintings — nearly every alley makes a good photo. Add in the cheap, authentic chungmu gimbap by the harbor, and you get a day trip that balances scenery and food equally well.

Suggested itinerary

Ride the cable car up to the Mireuksan observation deck in the morning, while the weather’s good and crowds are thinner. Then walk and photograph your way through Dongpirang Mural Village, and have chungmu gimbap for lunch at Gangguan Harbor. If time allows, add a boat trip to Hansando Island in the afternoon to round out a full day.

Before you go

Tongyeong’s sights are spread out, so plan your intercity bus schedule or driving route ahead of time, and keep the cable car’s peak wait times in mind — pacing it right makes it easy to cover the main sights in a single day.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take from Busan to Tongyeong?

About 1.5–2 hours by intercity bus or car. Leave early in the morning so you have enough time for the cable car, Dongpirang Mural Village, and Gangguan Harbor, with time to head back to Busan in the evening.

Is the Tongyeong Cable Car crowded? Should I book ahead?

Weekends and peak season can mean a longer wait on-site, so booking online in advance is worth it — or visit on a weekday to avoid the busiest times.

Can I fit everything into one day?

If you're only doing the cable car, Dongpirang Mural Village, and Chungmu Gimbap Street, a single day is plenty. If you also want to add the boat trip to Hansando Island, consider trimming something else, or stretching the trip into an overnight.
